It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week and to help Michiganders test their preparedness plans, a statewide tornado drill will take place Wednesday at 1 p.m. Government agencies, organizations, families and individuals are encouraged to participate in this statewide preparedness activity.
The Lansing Fire Department has developed into a multi-faceted agency responsible for providing a wide range of emergency and non-emergency services. The Lansing Fire Department's six divisions constantly strive to fulfill our mission statement.
The Fire Suppression Division responds to all requests for emergency services handling over 20,000 calls for service a year, such as Fire, Rescue, EMS, as well as Emergency Management, and much more. The Suppression Division is comprised of 159 sworn Firefighters, 6 Stations which house 6 Engines, 2 Ladder Trucks, 1 HazMat Squad, 1 Technical Rescue Truck, 4 Advanced Life Support Medic Units , 3 reserve Medic Units, 1 Bariatric Medic Unit, 2 ATV Units, 3 Zodiac Water Rescue Boats, and emergency equipment, to provide the highest quality emergency response services.
The Lansing Office of the Emergency Management is housed in the Lansing Fire Department. We serve Lansing residents through emergency preparedness, hazard mitigation, disaster response, and disaster recovery.
The Fire Marshal's Office is solely dedicated to protecting its community and citizens. Our unique team of professionals are highly trained in fire code enforcement and inspection as well as plan review and permitting.
The Code Enforcement Division strives to protect the health, safety, and welfare of Lansing residents through the preservation and improvement of the housing stock by assuring safe, decent, and sanitary housing while conserving the integrity of Lansing neighborhoods.
The training division is a component of the Operations branch of the Lansing Fire Department. This division is tasked with facilitating quality assurance through education and training of Lansing Fire Department personnel. is committed to providing the highest quality emergency response services for the City of Lansing.
The Maintenance and Alarm Division is responsible for keeping daily functions of the Fire Department supplied and operating.
