Winter Maintenance

The City of Lansing's Public Service Department is responsible for roughly over 400 miles of streets when it comes to clearing snow and salting.

Our technical staff, supervisors and equipment operators have worked together to improve every aspect of our snow removal program. Keeping our City's streets and sidewalks clear and safe during the winter is a big job and it cannot happen without the cooperation of all of our residents, businesses and agencies.

Please Remember: Each snowfall or ice storm is different. The decision when to start and stop any activity varies and is made depending upon individual weather conditions. The City of Lansing receives their information from the National Weather Service in addition to a private weather forecasting service; both of these services help the City make their decision. Lastly, since City trucks travel several miles every time they plow in poor weather conditions, the City asks that residents understand that streets and sidewalks cannot be cleared instantly or perfectly, although staff certainly does make it their top-priority and goal.
