Civil Cases

A civil case is a lawsuit seeking money damages. District Court handles civil cases where the claim for damages is $25,000 or less. Lawsuits involving damages over $25,000 are handled in circuit court.

If your damages are $5,500 or less, you have the option of filing your case as a small claims case. See the Small Claims page for further information.

Forms used in civil cases are available at the Court Forms page.

Assistance & Representation

Our clerks are available to provide assistance and information about existing cases. However, they are not attorneys and as such are prohibited from giving legal advice. While you are not required to hire an attorney to represent you, you should be sufficiently knowledgeable of civil processes if you choose to represent yourself.

ZOOM Instructions
Until further order of the court, your hearing may be conducted via zoom.  Below are the instructions on how to attend your hearing by zoom for each judge.
