We encourage citizens to utilize the many sidewalks and pathways around the City of Lansing for both transportation and recreation.

Since bicycling is so valued by the City of Lansing, we have created several bike lanes and trails in many areas around Lansing such as the Lansing River Trail; for the sake of safety, we expect bikers to follow the laws of the traffic while in these lanes.
The League of American Bicyclists named the City of Lansing as one of only eight bicycle friendly communities in Michigan, awarding the City with the Bronze Award.
The League of American Bicyclists started this program to recognize communities that welcome and encourage cyclists in five categories: Engineering, encouragement, education, enforcement, and lastly, evaluation and planning.
The City of Lansing has achieved this recognition by providing safe accommodations for cycling and encouraging people to bike for transportation and recreation.
