In order to apply for positions online, you will need a valid email account. You will also need access to a computer with an internet connection. Be prepared to provide details of your employment history, education and references as indicated on the employment application. The information you provide will be used to complete the initial review of your skills and abilities regarding the position.
Kiosks (computers) are located in the lobby of Lansing City Hall. The location is the Career Center. Kiosks can be accessed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Application Process
The application process is also known as the selection process. The steps are as follows:
- Applications are accepted through the posted deadline date
- Applicants may apply for more than one position by clicking separately on each position
- Each position will be posted with a specific deadline date unless it is an “open continuous” process which has a temporary closing date as needed
- Resumes may be submitted with the required employment applications by uploading the documents
- Applications are reviewed and screened for the minimum posted education and experience requirements
- Candidates are contacted during the selection process to schedule tests and interviews
- One or more of the following processes will occur depending on the position: written test, work sample and/or oral interview
- Additional documentation and state requirements are outlined for the Police Officer and Firefighter positions
- Candidates who successfully pass a selection process are given a conditional job offer
- Candidates complete a Background Authorization Form authorizing the City of Lansing to complete specified background checks
- Candidates who successfully complete the background checks are contacted regarding a New Hire Orientation and their start date
- The New Hire Orientation includes a review of all benefits pertaining to the position, safety regulations and employee guidelines
