Lansing's New Citizen's Academy to Begin this Fall

LANSING — The City of Lansing is now accepting applications for the inaugural Citizen’s Academy. The program will offer Lansing residents the opportunity to learn more about the procedures and services of city departments and about their personal role in local government.

“Citizen’s Academy is a unique opportunity for Lansing residents,” said Mayor Andy Schor. “Learning about the role individuals play in local government gives residents the opportunity to contribute to their community in a way that’s meaningful to them.”

The Citizen’s Academy will provide a behind-the-scenes look into departments across the City of Lansing and give participants the opportunity to speak firsthand with department directors and city officials.

Participants will take part in a 10-week program which includes group tours and presentations from city officials on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018.

Candidates must be a Lansing resident and be 18 years or older to be considered. Twenty-four participants will be chosen. Applications close Aug. 1, 2018.
