Walking Wednesdays to Kick-Off Wednesday, April 10, 2019

Mayor Andy Schor today announced that the Department of Neighborhoods and Citizen Engagement’s Walking Wednesday series will kick-off on Wednesday, April 10, 2019. Walking Wednesdays give residents opportunities to meet neighbors, explore new neighborhoods and consult with leaders throughout Lansing.

“These weekly events provide residents with a great opportunity to get to know Lansing and their neighbors,” said Lansing Mayor Andy Schor. “Walking Wednesdays are another way for residents to get involved in their community and local government.”

This year’s first Walking Wednesday will take place in Baker Neighborhood on April 10th at 6:00 p.m. Walking Wednesdays are weekly walking tours through neighborhoods in Lansing with neighbors, City officials, City Council members, Lansing Police Officers, and anyone else interested in the assets of Lansing’s neighborhoods. This spring, Walking Wednesday locations will highlight Lansing areas where there is development, proposed development, and/or many recent community conversations. All walks will begin at 6:00 p.m.

“Baker Neighborhood has parks, faith-based organizations, community groups, the Cedar Street Art Collective, and numerous partners working together to improve the neighborhood,” said Department of Neighborhoods and Citizen Engagement Director Andi Crawford. “This event is an opportunity to hear what’s been going on in the neighborhood and see how the area has been reenergized through activities, art, food and performances.”

The Walking Wednesday series was introduced in 2018 by the Department of Neighborhoods and Citizen Engagement. The department was created as part of Mayor Schor’s commitment to enhancing Lansing’s neighborhoods and encouraging civic engagement.
