Sign-up for CART Bi-Weekly Trash Collection Service Now Open

Residents can sign up for Capital Area Recycling and Trash (CART) bi-weekly trash collection for 32-gallon cart service beginning today. The service will begin in January 2020 and is recommended for households that produce 2-3 kitchen-sized bags of trash every two weeks. A 32-gallon cart is provided with service at $24 per quarter (every three months). The bi-weekly cost is half the cost of the weekly service at $48 per quarter (every three months). To sign-up for service, please call the CART office at (517) 483-4400.

“Capital Area Recycling and Trash (CART) will continue to provide convenient and reliable trash collection for Lansing’s residents after City trash bags are phased out at the end of 2019. We will reduce the damage to our roads as well as the amount of trash in our neighborhoods, ensure a safe environment for our city workers, and be more efficient with our services,” said Mayor Andy Schor. “In order to help ease the transition for residents, we are now offering bi-weekly trash collection as a sustainable and budget-friendly option.”

The bi-weekly collection will begin on the first recycle week in January 2020. Carts must be placed at the curbside by 7:00 a.m. on collection day. Collection day for bi-weekly trash will be the same day as recycling collection. No credit will be given for missed services due to resident error.

32-gallon trash carts holds 2 - 3 kitchen-sized bags. All trash must be placed inside the cart with the lid closed. CART recommends avoiding overstuffing the cart, because additional trash that is not inside the cart will not be collected.
