The City of Lansing today announced that curbside collection of residential yard waste will begin Monday, May 4, 2020. Due to the large amount of yard waste that residents have at the curbside already, it is likely that collection will not take place on the normal collection day until crews are able to catch up.
Residents should still place yard waste at the curbside on their regular collection day. Depending on the amount of material in a given route, collection will likely be delayed up to a week or longer in some areas. Drivers will be working extended schedules until normal collection schedules can be met.
In order for the fastest, most efficient collection of yard waste, it will only be accepted if it meets the following standard guidelines:
Residents should not place bags or bundles in the roadway, where it can affect storm water drainage, parking, trash/recycling collection, etc.
The City also encourages residents to try backyard composting, grasscycling and/or mulching. Additional information on these practices can be found at either www.michigan.gov/EGLEcompost or www.lansingmi.gov/yardwaste.
Status updates are available on the City’s website at www.lansingmi.gov/yardwaste.
