Mayor Andy Schor Announces Delvata Moses as Police Commission Investigator

(LANSING) — Mayor Andy Schor today announced that Delvata Moses will serve as the City of Lansing’s next Police Commission Investigator. The Police Commission Investigator is supervised by the Department of Human Relations and Community Services (HRCS) with a priority to address and independently investigate citizen complaints. 

“Delvata Moses will bring a multitude of knowledge and experience to her new role as the Police Commission Investigator for the City of Lansing. Having served for many years as a Senior Investigator for the City of Detroit’s Police Department, she will be able to quickly and effectively begin the important duties of this position,” said Mayor Schor. 

Delvata previously served as the Senior Investigator of the Board of Police Commission in the Office of the Chief Investigator for the City of Detroit. She served in this office since 2006, and prior to that worked as a Legal Investigator in the City of Detroit’s Law Department. 

“I am very excited to join the City of Lansing as Police Commission Investigator. Thank you for the opportunity to serve your great community,” said Delvata Moses. “In the words of Omoakhuana Anthonia, I believe that ‘A life of service is a life well and greatly lived.’”

Delvata earned her Master of Arts in Dispute Resolution from Wayne State University, Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from University of Detroit Mercy and an Associate of Arts in Secretarial Science from Lewis College of Business. She has completed numerous professional trainings including multicultural/diversity training, crisis intervention training, civil mediation training and more. 

The Commission Investigator is responsible for the investigation of complaints against employees of the Lansing Police Department to the Board of Police Commissioners. The Commission Investigator reviews the file to ensure that a complete, concise and fair investigation was conducted. A synopsis of each case is prepared and presented to commission members. Delvata will begin her new role with the City of Lansing on April 19, 2021.
