SEASONAL YARD WASTE COLLECTION ENDS THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 25, 2019
Residents can set out bagged leaves, grass clippings and other yard waste materials at the curbside on a weekly basis through the week of November 25, 2019. Materials must be placed on the curb on the normal service day for recycling and city trash collection. Please allow extra time for crews to pick up yard waste, there may be delays due to weather or the high volume of material.
Yard waste should be placed in paper bags. Brush and tree trimmings must be less than 4 feet in length and less than 2 inches in diameter and bundled with string or twine. All bags and bundles must weigh 30 pounds or less.
Raking leaves into the street is a violation of the Lansing Code of Ordinances 676.02 – “Unlawful Deposits of Public and Private Property”. When raked into streets, leaves can clog catch basins, create dangerous driving conditions as well as be unsightly. Street sweepers will sweep around leaf piles that have been placed in the gutter.
Residents may NOT use City trash or other plastic bags or trash carts for yard waste removal. Also, due to health and safety concerns, the use of rigid containers to collect yard waste is not allowed. Disposal of beehives or wasp nests in yard waste is prohibited, as they are a danger to our yard waste collection staff.
