200 North Washington Square to Close for Silver Bells Event.


The City of Lansing Public Service Department announces the closing of the 200 North Washington Square block for the Lansing Board of Water and Light (LBWL) Toy Mill. 
 
The 200 block of North Washington Square between Ottawa Street and Ionia Street, will be closed to traffic as it is transformed into a winter wonderland.  The LBWL will begin set up of the Toy Mill, a downtown tradition, between 9:00 a.m. and noon on Thursday, November 21, 2019.  The Street will reopen once the area is secured and the Toy Mill is in place. The Street will again close on Friday, November 22, 2019 after 9:00 a.m. for final preparations for the Toy for Tot’s kick off at Noon, all are welcome to attend.
 
The LBWL will once again be using the Toy Mill as a centralized collection point while assisting the United States Marine Corp (USMC) in their annual “Toys for Tots” toy drive. The USMC will be accepting toys at this location from noon to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2019 as the City of Lansing celebrates the Silver Bells in the City electric light parade and the lighting of the State Christmas Tree.
 
“Toys for Tots” is a national program founded in 1947 is now in its 72nd year. In the Greater Lansing area, representatives from the USMC distribute thousands of toys, games and other gifts to needy children during the Christmas Season.  So, when you venture downtown on Friday, November 22nd to join in the Silver Bells festivities, please consider bringing a new unwrapped toy and visit the military heroes at the LBWL Toy Mill to help the USMC continue this tradition.
 
There will also be members of the USMC at other Hospitality Locations during the Silver Bells Celebration.
 
The Toy Mill is scheduled to be removed on Monday morning, November 25th
